Borrow Equipment

Video, audio, and photography equipment are available for a maximum 3-day check-out period. Professional equipment must be reserved at least 24 hours before the requested pick-up time. All other equipment are available on a walk-in basis for check-out or in-house use. Late fines accrue at $5 per day for walk-in equipment and $5 per hour for professional equipment.

Equipment required for research or off-campus programs is available for long-term use. Please send an email to Jones.Media.Center@dartmouth.edu to find out if your project is eligible for long-term equipment.

Equipment for in-house use only


Hard drives LaCie firewire hard drives are available to patrons working on video editing projects. Hard drives may be signed out for up to 7 days (in-house use only).
Microphones Record live sound (voiceover) with our USB Headset Microphones or USB Tabletop Microphones. Record audio with Audacity or use the voiceover tool in iMovie.
Sony HD video deck Import high definition (HD) footage from miniDV tape with the SONY HD video deck.
MIDI keyboard A MIDI keyboard is available for advanced audio projects.
Memory card reader The PROGear-G5 allows you to download data from flash media cards via hi-speed USB 2.0 connection at a transfer rate of up to 480 Mb/sec. Four card slots accept 28 media formats, including CompactFlash, Microdrive, MiniSD,SD, MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick, SmartMedia, and xD-Picture Card.
Floppy disc &
Iomega zip drives
Need to recover old data? We have a 250MB Zip drive with USB interface and a VST iMac USB floppy drive that reads and writes standard 1.44 MB floppy discs.
Wacom tablets Draw directly into Flash, Illustrator, or Photoshop using a pressure-sensitive Wacom tablet, mouse, and pen. See the Wacom website for a list of tablet enhanced software.
Flatbed scanner Scan photos and documents. Maximum size: 8.5" x 11.7"
Slide scanner Scan slides and 35 millimeter film.
