Technical Services

We offer a full range of media transfer, post-production, and duplication services for academic materials*.

Transfer

Media labs are available for patron use

We provide conversion of various formats, typically analog to digital or foreign media to US-compatible formats. From upgrading collections to projects needed for presentations or class use, each request requires specific equipment and knowledge. Please note that the transfer process requires more than real time to complete the digitizing, encoding, and publishing steps. For example, it may take an hour and a half of staff time to encode and publish 30 minutes of video. We also have the capability to edit and digitally master files to improve the quality or the usefulness of the media for the given project.

Sample pricing for Transfer Services:
Non-classroom transfer and duplication services are usually billed $30.00 per hour (in half-hour increments) of the real time required to complete the transfer, plus the cost of materials. Please note: unlabeled media will not be accepted.

  • VHS to DVD transfer: $30/hr + DVDs @ $1.50 each
  • Audio tape or vinyl to CD transfer: $30/hr + CDs @ $1.00 each

Post-Production

Post production services are available for faculty, staff, or departmental projects including exhibits, presentations, grant proposals, and academic publishing. We provide assistance with editing, excerpting clips, reviewing presentations for quality of audio and video signals, and reformatting collections. As part of the service, we are able to minimize or remove undesirable artifacts from the original recording. Media may be published for various purposes (near-lossless master, edited master for archiving, viewing copies, and compressed files for internet delivery and electronic applications).

If you require conversion or editing please refer the information on transfer and post-production services, above.
